Itinerary
Day 1: Transfer by rail to Lucerne and take the opportunity to discover the Old Town and stroll along Lake Lucerne and visit the Chapel Bridge. Complete with gable paintings, the covered, medieval Chapel Bridge forms the centrepiece of Lucerne’s townscape and is considered to be one of the oldest, covered wooden bridges in Europe. Overnight in Lucerne.
Day 2: This is a fantastic excursion to enjoy beautiful views of the Lake Lucerne region. Short cruise across the lake to Alpnachstad. Change here to the steepest cogwheel train in the world. For the return journey chose between cogwheel train or gondola to Kriens. Back to Lucerne by bus. Overnight in Lucerne.
Day 3: Get on board of the train and ride to the world famous holiday resort of St. Moritz. King Carl Gustaf of Sweden is only one of the many prominent guests of St. Moritz. St. Moritz is often called an Alpine metropolis. There are numerous luxury hotels, spas and upscale shops against an Alpine background of lakes and mountains. Overnight in St. Moritz.
Day 4: Today you take the world famous Glacier Express to Zermatt which crosses no less than 291 bridges and goes through 91 tunnels. After an exhilarating trip, you will arrive in Zermatt, at the foot of the Matterhorn. Overnight in Zermatt.
Day 5: The cogwheel train will take you up to 3089 m. During the ride to the summit you will experience excellent vantage points for some 29 four-thousand-meter peaks including the mighty Matterhorn. Overnight in Zermatt.
Day 6: Today you leave the Valais region and ride on a train to the Bernese Oberland to Interlaken, the door to the alpine world of Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau. Overnight in Interlaken.
Day 7: Take the train from Interlaken to the Kleine Scheidegg at the foot of the famous Eiger. Change trains and ride via ‘Eiger Gletscher’ to the Jungfraujoch – the highest railway station in Europe at 3454 m with some breathtaking views of the Aletsch glacier at 22 km the longest in the Alps and an UNESCO World Heritage site. Overnight in Interlaken.
Day 8: After breakfast journey back by train to the airport/border or on to your next holiday destination.
