How do I get to the Gornergrat?

The Gornergrat railway starts at the valley station in Zermatt directly opposite the station. The return journey from Zermatt to the Gornergrat takes around 35 minutes each way.

When is the Gornergrat railway open?

The cogwheel railway operates all year round and runs at different intervals depending on the season. The current departure times and seasons can be found in the timetable .

Can I reserve my seat?

Seat reservations are possible with priority boarding. This allows you to board the train three minutes before the other passengers and choose your preferred seat. The reservation is not included in the ticket price and has to be booked directly with the Gornergrat railway. You will find more information on priority boarding here .

Is the Gornergrat accessible to people with reduced mobility?

Yes, the journey up the Gornergrat is possible for people with reduced mobility. Please note, however, that the intermediate stations in Findelbach and Rotenboden are not accessible.

Priority boarding is recommended during the high season from May to September.

Adults with a Swiss Travel Pass, Swiss Travel Pass Flex or Swiss Half Fare Card valid on the day of travel receive a 50% discount. There is no discount for senior citizens.

Children travel free of charge up to their 9th birthday in winter and up to their 6th birthday in summer and do not require a ticket. If one parent has a Swiss Travel Pass, Swiss Travel Pass Flex or Swiss Half Fare Card valid on the day of travel, children between the ages of 6 and 15 travel free of charge with the included Swiss Family Card.
