Pilatus ticket
Important information
- Ticket entitles the holder to a return journey from Kriens or Alpnachstad to Pilatus
- Cable cars from Kriens operate all year round, except for during maintenance work
- Cogwheel train from Alpnachstad operates from mid-May to the end of November
- Combination of the two routes possible
- The ticket is issued as a voucher and must be exchanged at the valley station

How to get there
There are two ways to get to Pilatus. With the Mount Pilatus ticket, you can combine the outward journey on one route and the return journey on the other.
From Kriens
Take the panoramic gondola to Fräkmüntegg, where you board the Dragon Ride cable car to Pilatus Kulm. The journey from Kriens takes around 35 minutes, including change.
From Alpnachstad
The world’s steepest cogwheel train with a gradient of up to 48% takes you from Alpnachstad directly to Pilatus Kulm in around 30 minutes.

Adults with a Swiss Travel Pass, Swiss Travel Pass Flex or Swiss Half Fare Card valid on the day of travel receive a 50% discount. Adults with a Lucerne Travel Pass travel free of charge. There is no discount for senior citizens.
Children under 6 travel free of charge and do not require a ticket. If one parent has a Swiss Travel Pass, Swiss Travel Pass Flex or Swiss Half Fare Card valid on the day of travel, children between the ages of 6 and 15 travel free of charge with the included Swiss Family Card.

Frequently asked questions
The cable cars from Kriens operate all year round, with the exception of the maintenance periods from 30 March to 31 March 2026 and from 19 October to 27 November 2026. They run continuously during operating hours.
The cogwheel train from Alpnachstad runs every 35 minutes from 11 May to 29 November 2026.

Seat reservations are recommended for the cogwheel railway from Alpnachstad, especially on weekends in good weather and at lunchtime during the week. Otherwise, you may have to wait. Seat reservations can be made directly with the Pilatus railway and are not included in the ticket.
Reservations are not possible for the gondolas from Kriens.
